I earned my Bachelor’s in Family Studies, as well as my Master’s degree in Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling from East Carolina University. I am currently licensed as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (#20561) and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (#11053) in the state of North Carolina. I approach counseling utilizing an integrated counseling approach. I currently provide services to children and adults utilizing the following treatment approaches:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Brief Solution-Focused Therapy
Child-Parent Psychotherapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
During my graduate studies, I gained experience completing my practicum and internship at an opioid treatment program providing individual counseling services, as well as facilitating parenting, relapse prevention, and Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) groups. I also completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and worked for two years as a volunteer crisis counselor providing supportive counseling and crisis stabilization via Suicide, Dial-A-Teen, and Veteran’s Crisis hotlines.
From 2014-2016, I gained additional post graduate training through the North Carolina Child Treatment Program as part of the first cohort of therapists in the state of North Carolina to be trained and rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy. I have also provided mental health and developmental assessment and consultation within early care and education settings.
My dog, Athena, began her journey in animal assisted therapy in August 2019. Her sensitive and intuitive nature brings just the right amount of calm to the therapy room, and sets even the most anxious hearts at ease.
In 2020, I completed basic training with EMDR Consulting and began implementing EMDR into my clinical practice.
EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy technique which has been successful in helping people suffering many forms of emotional distress, including trauma, anxiety and panic, fears and phobias, loss, disturbing memories, etc. EMDR is considered a breakthrough therapy because of its simplicity and the fact that it can bring quick and lasting relief.
